Resident Forum
What is the AOPHA Resident Forum?
The AOPHA Resident Forum is affiliated with AOPHA, the Association of Ohio Philanthropic
Homes, Housing and Services for the Aging. Founded in 1937, AOPHA is an organization
of 325 not-for-profit retirement communities, nursing homes, senior housing sites and
home and community-based service providers working to improve the quality of life for
over 30,000 Ohio seniors cared for by its members each year.
The Resident Forum is comprised of residents and clients of AOPHA member organizations
and promotes resident and client involvement in achieving this goal. Opportunities for
involvement include: the annual AOPHA Resident Forum Art and Writing Exhibition,
legislative and regulatory advocacy, consumer education to assure protection for
frail seniors, and sufficient governmental funding for all levels of care.

Leadership Needed for Resident Forum Steering Committee
The activities of the AOPHA Resident Forum are directed by the Resident
Forum Steering Committee. This group of residents from around the state meets
3-4 times annually in AOPHA offices in Columbus or by conference call. Their
decisions help Ohio seniors enjoy a better quality of life. Some of the activities and
issues they have tackled include:
Legislative testimony and advocacy on "Return to Home", the Congressional Senior
Commission, Medicaid payment reductions, and other state and federal laws under consideration
that affect our not-for-profit homes, housing and service providers.
Sponsorship and hosting of the "AOPHA Stars Employee Recognition Program" to
offer thanks and support to non-supervisory workers in not-for-profit organizations.
Sponsoring and promoting the Resident Forum Art and Writing Regional and Statewide
Art and Writing Exhibitions.
The Steering Committee is supported by staff of AOPHA and AOPHA member organizations
in carrying out their goals and objectives. No clerical work or "hands on" labor is needed.
Resident leaders are needed for relationship building with other residents and legislators,
ideas and decisions regarding the activities of the Forum.
